Georgia's Dani Carnegie erupts for 29 in stunner over No. 5 Vandy

Top 16 NCAA women's basketball seeds (Feb. 14 committee rankings)

Georgia delivered one of its biggest wins of the season, knocking off No. 5 Vanderbilt, 76-74, in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final seconds. Dani Carnegie caught fire early and carried the offensive load throughout, finishing with 29 points on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting night while attacking the rim and knocking down timely free throws.

Vanderbilt appeared poised to escape after erasing a second-half deficit and briefly taking the lead in the final minutes. But Trinity Turner answered with a driving layup in traffic to put Georgia ahead for good with .50 seconds left, and the Bulldogs came up with a defensive stop on the Commodores’ final possession to seal the upset.

Georgia controlled key stretches with physical defense, holding Vanderbilt to just 37% from the field. Vanderbilt's Mikayla Blakes and Justine Pissott did all they could, combining for 50 of the team's 74 points.

The loss came just a day after the Commodores were revealed as a projected No. 1 seed in the NCAA’s Top 16 preview, making the defeat an even tougher blow as March approaches.
