The Iowa star and reigning Naismith National Player of the Year entered the game only eight points away from the mark after she scored 31 in a loss at Nebraska on Sunday.

But on Thursday β€” her 126th game at Iowa β€” Clark took the top spot on the list. The Hawkeye superstar had her eyes set on glory from the opening tip, canning each of Iowa's first two shot attempts, and ultimately shattered the record in iconic Clark fashion, firing her near-instantaneous release from the center-court logo and rattling home history.

In that Nebraska game, Clark became only the sixth player in women's college basketball history with more than 1,000 assists on a feed to Kate Martin at the rim β€” that dime also made Clark the first player with 1,000 assists and 3,000 points.

Arriving in Iowa City, Clark immediately transformed the Iowa offense into one of America's most efficient, high-tempo units with more than 26 points per game. As a scorer, Clark is best known for her audacious range and apparent mastery of the 3-point shot, taking more than 13 3-pointers per game this season and converting at an impressive 40 percent clip. Clark's career high came in a 46-point effort at Ann Arbor on Feb. 6, 2022, and she has surpassed the 40-point mark 11 times in her illustrious career.

Here's a complete look at the 16 women's college basketball players with at least 3,000 career points:
