The 1983 NCAA tournament ended with . The No. 6 seeded Wolfpack, led by coach Jim Valvano, won on Lorenzo Charles' buzzer-beating dunk after a missed desperation shot.

Even though NC State won the championship, Houston's Akeem Olajuwon was named the Most Outstanding Player.
