Tournament champion criteria

Hosted at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas, the lineup included both teams from the 2024 MCWS championship series, reigning champions Tennessee and runner-ups Texas A&M.

The other competitors include Mississippi State, Arizona, Oklahoma State and Rice. Five of the six teams were ranked in D1Baseball.com’s preseason Top 25. Fifteen players in the classic were named to their respective conference’s preseason first-team and seven were preseason All-Americans.

Below are the four factors used to declare the winner of the round-robin, nine-game tournament:

  1. Winning percentage (min. three games)
  2. If two teams tie in winning percentage, then head-to-head between both teams decides winner
  3. If more than two teams tie in winning percentage, then run differential decides winner
  4. If two teams tie in winning percentage and don’t play head-to-head, then run differential decides winner

Past tournament winners

Here's a look down memory lane of the classic's winners and their opponents. Rice has won the most tournament titles with six, followed by Baylor (four) and TCU (three).

No team that has won the tournament has gone on to win the Men's College World Series in the same year. Nine teams have reached Omaha, including 2004 Texas, which lost in the championship series.
