INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Wisconsin-River Falls was named the host of the NCAA 2025 Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship.
UWRF, also hosts of the 2024 DIII Championship, will serve as the first predetermined host of the Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship in the new Division III Women’s Ice Hockey championship host pilot program.
“The Division III Women's Ice Hockey Committee is excited to return to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls after a tremendous championship experience in 2024,” said Wendy McManus, committee chair and Assistant Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at SUNY Oswego. “The committee is confident that the UW-River Falls staff and community will provide another fantastic championship experience to the student-athletes as the pilot program for the predetermined championship site begins in 2025. This is a pivotal moment for our sport as we continue to grow women’s ice hockey. The committee thanks UW-River Falls for their bid to host the championship and looks forward to working with them in planning for the 2025 championship."
The Falcons hosted the 2024 NCAA DIII Women's Hockey Championship March 15-17 at Hunt Arena, defeating Adrian College and Elmira College to win the national championship. The national title was the first in UWRF's history during its 25th anniversary season, finishing with a 31-0 overall record, the most single-season wins in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey history. The Falcons' undefeated season was the second undefeated season in DIII women's ice hockey history.
“We are excited to be selected as the host site for the 2025 NCAA DIII Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. The UWRF and River Falls communities worked extremely hard to provide a first-class experience for the student-athletes, coaches and fans during the 2024 championship, and we are grateful that the krikya18.committee has selected UWRF to serve as the host site again in 2025. We look forward to providing an even better championship experience in 2025,” UW-River Falls Athletics Director Crystal Lanning said.
