Indiana cracks the top 10

No. 8 Indiana has entered the top 10 for the first time since November 2020.

The Hoosiers continued their improbable run on Saturday, pummeling Michigan State 47-10 to remain undefeated — one of five unbeaten teams left in college football. To put it in perspective, Indiana’s closest margin of victory is 14 points.

Woah!

Indiana is now the fourth-highest-ranked Big Ten team while tied for the spot in conference standings with No. 1 Oregon. Although IU’s first-ranked matchup isn’t until Nov. 23 versus No. 3 Ohio State, they do welcome in the reigning national champions in Michigan this week.

Clemson and Iowa State fall outside top 15, SMU enters

Falling to Texas Tech in a fourth-quarter thriller, No. 17 Iowa State drops six spots on top of leaving the coveted list of unbeaten teams. The Cyclones’ road to the postseason isn’t too rugged with just one remaining ranked team left to play currently in No. 22 Kansas State, who lost to Houston on Saturday.

Clemson didn’t play its best brand of football either, losing to then-unranked Louisville, and suffering its first conference loss of the year. The Tigers have worked their way back up the rankings after a game one loss to No. 2 Georgia, but once again have work to do after falling eight spots — the biggest fall by any team in the AP Top 25.

Even with the losses, though, both teams are still top three in their conference’s standings.

SMU jumps, Louisville and Vanderbilt re-enters this week's rankings

The Mustangs were the biggest winners in this week's AP Top 25 poll, rising seven spots after defeating then-No. 18 Pitt, 48-25, and securing the program's highest ranking since 1985. Notching its second-ranked victory of the season, SMU has zero ranked opponents left on its regular season schedule.

And welcome back, Louisville and Vanderbilt!

Two teams that made appearances in the AP Top 25 earlier in the season re-enter after wins against then-No. 11 Clemson and Auburn, respectively. The Cardinals picked up their first ranked win of the year versus Clemson, winning 33-21, with one ranked matchup left currently in No. 23 Pitt. The Commodores' 17-7 victory versus Auburn made them bowl-eligible for the first time since 2018, and have the opportunity to end the year with a winning record for the first time since 2013.
