Tennessee joins the top five
After dominating Oklahoma in a game that wasn't as close as the final 10-point margin showed, Tennessee moved up one spot in the AP Poll to No. 5. The Volunteers didn't allow their first two touchdowns of the 2024 season until the fourth quarter of Saturday night's contest β when the team was already up 22-3. Tennessee's defense has been playing at an elite level, joining its electrifying yet balanced offense.
Meanwhile, the top four of the AP Poll remained the same, led by No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Alabama.

Michigan climbs after holding off USC
The defending national champions are back in the top 15 after the now-No. 12 Michigan Wolverines climbed six spots in the AP Poll. While Michigan's three-point win, which only passed for 32 yards, wasn't pretty, it was enough to impress voters.
On the other sideline, Southern California falls two spots to No. 13, just one spot in front of No. 14 LSU who the Trojans defeated in the season opener.
BYU and Boise State enter this week's rankings
After Nebraska and Northern Illinois lost to unranked opponents, the two schools fell out of the AP Poll. BYU and Boise State replaced them.
BYU enters the rankings after dominating a then-No. 13 Kansas State team 38-9. The Cougars are undefeated at 4-0 to start the year. Meanwhile, Boise State enters this week's rankings at 2-1. The Broncos have only defeated Georgia Southern and Portland State, but a close loss to a top-10 Oregon team was impressive.
