Reactions to Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield winning 83rd award

  Baker Mayfield's superb senior year earned him the Heisman Trophy.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the 2017 Heisman Memorial Trophy winner on Saturday night in New York City.

The quarterback earned 2,398 votes, 1,098 more votes than second-place winner Stanford running back Bryce Love, who finished with a round 1,300. Louisville’s Lamar Jackson (last year’s winner) finished third with 793 votes, followed by 304 for Penn State’s Saquon Barkley and 175 for San Diego State’s Rashaad Penny.

Mayfield took 732 first-place votes.

On Thursday night, Mayfield was named the AP Player of the Year.

Mayfield completed 71 percent of his passes this season for 4,340 yards, 41 passing touchdowns to just five interceptions while averaging 13.4 yards per attempt. He also ran for five scores.

His Sooners face Georgia in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
