KU at WVU, Duke at Miami headline Monday's games

West Virginia has won its last four meetings with Kansas in Morgantown.

Here's what you need to know for Monday, Jan. 15:

Game of the night

Kansas at West Virginia, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN: The Mountaineers have won four in a row over Kansas in Morgantown. The Mountaineers are coming off a road loss at Texas Tech. They will be hungry for a win in a wild atmosphere at home. Kansas has already won at Texas and TCU. But playing Press Virginia in Morgantown isn’t comparable. This should be another crazed affair. Jevon Carter and Devonte' Graham are Big 12 Player of the Year candidates; Carter has the best chance to catch Oklahoma’s Trae Young.

Undercard

Duke at Miami, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN: Somehow, the loser of this game will drop three games behind first place, undefeated Virginia in the loss column. Duke and Miami fancied themselves to be ACC title contenders. But this could be a tall task if they fall that far behind, especially since neither one has played Virginia yet. The most pressing concern for Miami is how the Canes handle Marvin Bagley III.

Contender/Pretender

Florida State at Boston College, 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU: The Seminoles and Eagles are both 2-3 in the ACC. Florida State expected to be an upper-tier team in the conference. BC wasn’t projected to be in the mix. The winner of this game can feel like it has a real shot. BC beat Duke at home, but let one slip away against Clemson. The Eagles also had a chance to win at Virginia. The Seminoles need to defend much better after giving up 90 points to Syracuse — even in a double overtime win.

Momentum swing

Maryland at Michigan, 6:30 p.m. ET, FS1: The Wolverines are riding high after knocking off Michigan State in East Lansing Saturday. Maryland got crushed at Ohio State. A win for Michigan keeps the Wolverines on pace with the Spartans in the chase of Purdue and Ohio State. Maryland is still in search of a road win against a projected NCAA tournament team. The win at Illinois doesn’t qualify as such. Maryland needs to improve its resume and it will have other opportunities like at home against Michigan State and at Purdue. Getting this one would be huge in the quest.

Separation game

Butler at Providence, 4:30 p.m. ET, FS1: The Bulldogs ended a three-game losing streak by beating Marquette while Providence has won two in a row after a two-game skid. These two teams both have wins over the elite of the Big East — Butler over Villanova and Providence over Xavier. Here’s the power-rating difference between the two: Butler has an RPI of 27, is 2-5 in quadrant 1 and 2-1 in quadrant 2 for a solid NCAA resume while Providence has an RPI of 44, 2-3 in quadrant 1 and 1-1 in quadrant 2, meaning the Friars still have work to do.
