These are the potential repeat individual indoor track and field champions in 2024

Top NCAA track and field athletes to know in 2024

There are eight returning DI indoor track and field champions — not including relays — that will have a chance to defend their title at the 2024 NCAA championships in Boston. Here's a look at who could repeat this year.

Arkansas' Romaine Beckford | High Jump

Romaine Beckford swept the indoor and outdoor high jump titles at South Florida last year. He has since transferred to Arkansas and hasn't missed a beat, jumping an NCAA-leading 2.27 meters in 2024.

Notre Dame's Jadin O'Brien | Pentathlon

Jadin O'Brien scored 4,512 points to win last year's pentathlon title and sits fourth nationally in the combined events entering championships. Another big-time performance across five events could give the Fighting Irish star consecutive championships.

Ole Miss' Jalani Davis | Weight Throw

Jalani Davis is the only woman to surpass 25 meters in the weight throw this year (25.09) after winning the NCAA title in the event last winter. Only two other collegians have thrown farther than her in collegiate history, so a repeat title is a possibility.

Stanford's Roisin Willis | 800m

Roisin Willis hasn't reached her personal-best times under two minutes in the 800 meters this year, but she's still run the 10th-fastest time in the NCAA this year at 2:01.99. If the defending 800m champion can set a new personal best at championships, she could run away with back-to-back titles.

Texas' Yusuf Bizimana | 800m

After a controversial finish, Texas' Yusuf Bizimana won the 800-meter title in 2023. This year, the Texas standout enters the race looking to repeat, owning the nation's fastest time this year at 1:45.88 (altitude).

Texas A&M's Lamara Distin | High Jump

Lamara Distin has won the last two indoor high jump titles and will be attempting a three-peat in Boston. She'll be the overwhelming favorite in the event after she set a collegiate record when she cleared 2.00 meters at SEC Championships.

RECORDS: Every collegiate track and field record broken in 2024

Texas Tech's Terrence Jones | 60m

Terrence Jones won the 60-meter title last year after running 6.46 seconds in the final, the fastest time of any one last year. Jones also holds the collegiate record in the event so he's definitely a threat to repeat.

NEXT TO FALL: These records should be on notice at indoor championships

Washington's Luke Houser | Mile

Luke Houser won the mile in 4:03.33 last year in the altitude of New Mexico. While that time for its face value wouldn't come close to cracking the top-50 times in 2024, Houser has run the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season at 3:51.73.
