The NCAA indoor track and field season may not get into full swing until the calendar turns to 2024, but there were still plenty of exciting performances that kicked off the season in December. We saw collegiate records, school records and more.

Harvard's Graham Blanks sets indoor 5000m collegiate record

Harvard's Graham Blanks won the DI cross country individual title and in his first race of the indoor season, he set the indoor 5000 meter record, finishing in 13:03.78 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Blanks broke former Arizona star Lawi Lalang's record of 13:08.28 from 2012. Blanks' time is the fastest across either the indoor or outdoor seasons.

Florida's Parker Valby won the DI cross country individual title on the women's side and in her first race of the indoor season, she set the indoor 5000 meter record, finishing in 14:56.11 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Valby is the first NCAA women to ever break 15 minutes in the 5K, indoors or outdoors.

JaMeesia Ford with a 35.83 in the 300m to post the fastest time in the 🌎 this season!!
South Carolina has a star on its hands after JaMeesia Ford ran the second-fastest 300 meters in NCAA history of 35.83 seconds at the Clemson Opener. Ford only trails Bowerman winner Abby Steiner on the collegiate record list. Ford's time is also the fourth-fastest from an American all-time.

Northern Arizona star distance runner Nico Young opened his season with the third-fastest 3000 meter race in NCAA history, finishing in 7:37.73 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

Time is 2nd fastest in NCAA history 😳
Defending steeplechase champion Olivia Markezich continued her dominance across the 3000-meter distance, this time indoors at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Markezich ran the second-fastest time in NCAA history, finishing in 8:40.42, only behind Katelyn Tuohy's mark from last year.

TRACK IS BACK!
Mya Lesnar is the daughter of WWE legend Brock Lesnar and she caught everyone's attention earlier this season in the shot put at Colorado State. Lesnar set a Colorado State program record with an 18.50 meter shot put at the Mines Alumni Classic, an NCAA-leading mark. Lesnar is the only woman to surpass 18 meters in the shot put this year.
Daughter of NFL legend stars in first race

Kentucky's Cha'iel Johnson is the daughter of former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. After a decorated high school career, Johnson won her first collegiate race, taking the 600 meter crown in 1:32.70.

Erin Brown has drawn attention from track and field fans and athletes across the country over the last few years with one of the sport's biggest followings on TikTok. Brown is never afraid to speak his mind and he talks a big talk. He backed up his talking on the track at the 2023 Spokane Invitational, running an NCAA-leading time of 20.79 seconds in the 200 meters. The time is also a school record.

Iowa's Kalen Walker ran an NCAA-leading 60 meters in 6.59 seconds at the Jimmy Grant Invite. Walker ran 6.60 in the prelims of the meet, with both times breaking an Iowa school record that he previously set in 2022.
Rutgers' Chloe Timberg soars to new heights

Rutgers' Chloe Timberg broke her own school record at the Rutgers Holiday Classic with her pole vault of 4.47 meters. Timberg's is the only NCAA mark to surpass 4.40 meters this year.
