Here are my latest college softball Power 10 rankings after some entertaining Week 5 action.
1. Oklahoma | LW: 1
Oklahoma stays on top, especially with Texas dropping another game. The Sooners swept Iowa State with two run-rule wins over the weekend.
2. LSU |LW: 3
LSU moves into the 2-spot, 22-0 now after sweeping Kentucky. This team really does seem to have it all going this year. The offense has been superb, just notching its 10th game with double-digit hits. Sydney Berzon is 8-0 in the circle. The Tigers face Texas on Tuesday, so I'm excited for that one.
3. Texas | LW: 2
Speaking of the Longhorns, I mentioned they dropped one game of their series with Houston, but I am only going to drop them one spot for it. I still think this is a top-3 team in the country. They followed up the loss with two wins over the Cougars.
4. Duke | LW: 4
Duke stays put at No. 4 as it moved to 19-1 with three shutout wins over Elon and South Dakota State.
5. Stanford | LW: 5
Stanford remains at No. 5, riding a 13-game win streak after Taryn Kern had the decisive go-ahead hit to get the win over LMU.
6. Georgia | LW: 6
Georgia also stands pat at No. 6. The Dawgs had an impressive weekend, going 5-0 at the Bulldog Classic, with wins over Miami, Jacksonville State and Furman.
7. Oklahoma State | LW: 7
The Cowgirls won their series against ranked Baylor, dropping one game.
8. Washington | LW: 8
Washington stays at No. 8 after winning its series over Arizona State.
9. Tennessee | LW: 9
Tennessee picked up a big win over Clemson and was 5-0 last week.
10. Virginia Tech | LW: NR
This was probably my toughest choice. I considered Virginia Tech, Missouri, Texas A&M and Florida for this final spot. When it came down to it, they all had a bad loss or two. I gave the spot to the Hokies, who have the most impressive win over a top-10 team in Georgia. Big wins are what I value the most.
