INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Committee announced the field for its championship tournament today.
The following conferences and their representatives received automatic qualification:
- America East Conference: UAlbany
- Atlantic 10 Conference: Saint Joseph’s
- Atlantic Sun Conference: Utah
- Big East Conference: Georgetown
- Big Ten Conference: Michigan
- Coastal Athletic Association: Towson
- Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference: Sacred Heart
- Patriot League: Lehigh
- The Ivy League: Princeton
The remainder of the field was selected at large:
- Notre Dame
- Duke
- Johns Hopkins
- Syracuse
- Denver
- Virginia
- Maryland
- Penn State
Sacred Heart is making its first appearance in the Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
The opening round game will be held on May 8. That will be followed by the eight first round contests the weekend of May 11-12 on the campuses of the participating institutions.
The defending national champions from Notre Dame earned the top seed in the tournament. Duke, Syracuse, and Virginia joined the Fighting Irish as seeded teams out of the ACC. The Big Ten had three teams receive a seed: Johns Hopkins, Maryland, and Penn State. Denver, out of the Big East, also claimed a seed.
All Division I first round games will be televised on ESPNU. The quarterfinal games will be hosted by Hofstra and Towson, and those contests will also air on ESPNU. The Division I semifinal and championship games, along the Division II and III championship games, will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with Drexel University serving as hosts for the event. The Division I semifinals will be televised on ESPN2 on Saturday, May 25, and the championship game will be Monday, May 27 on ESPN.
