Fencing standings

Men's saber national champion: Luke Linder, Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish walked into the championship match knowing they were going to walk away with the trophy. After earning the top two seeds in the semifinals, freshman Luke Linder and junior Jared Smith battled it out in the finals with Linder emerging victorious, 15-7. This is Linder's first individual national championship and the second for Notre Dame this year.

Men's foil national champion: Marcello Olivares, Notre Dame

Notre Dame's Marcello Olivares was strong from the beginning of the competition and didn't let up until he secured a national championship in the men's foil competition. Olivares met his teammate Andrew Machovec in the championship match after they took down St. John's Cesar Colon and Duke's Finn Hossfeld, respectively. Olivares topped Machovec 15-3 to secure his first national championship.

Men's épée national champion: Ryan Griffiths, Penn State

Penn State placed two fencers in the semifinals of the épée competition, but it was junior Ryan Griffiths who captured the title. Griffiths emerged from the No. 3 seed in the semifinals to meet Notre Dame's Stephen Ewart in the championship. Griffith's 15-10 victory kept the Fighting Irish from a clean sweep of champions on the men's side.
