Notre Dame claims 11th national title
Notre Dame claimed its 11th national title in fencing at the 2021 NC fencing championships.
The Irish also grabbed two individual national titles on the fourth and final day of the championships in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Notre Dame's Stefani Deschner and Kara Linder, earned the individual titles in women's foil and sabre, respectively.

2021 NC fencing championships wrap up on Day 4
The 2021 NC fencing championships conclude on Sunday, March 28. This is the fourth and final day of the event as we’ll see individual champions crowned in épée, foil and sabre on the women’s side in addition to an overall team champion. After three days, Notre Dame leads the team rankings. If the standings hold, this would be the Fighting Irish's third title in five years.

Day three at the 2021 NC fencing championships saw the first three rounds in the women's saber, foil, and épée. Notre Dame remains in the lead in team standings (above) after the three days with Penn State close behind.

Rounds 1-3 of the women's épée finished with Stanford's Irene Yeu in the lead. Notre Dame continued its strong performance in this year's championships with two fencers finishing in the top five. Below are the complete standings.
Women's foil results from rounds 1-3
Penn State's Samantha Catantan leads the women's foil standings after the opening rounds. Catantan is joined in the top five by teammate Lodovica Bicego who finished fifth. The two fencers' performance keep the Nittany Lions in a close second place heading in to the final day of competition. Below are the complete foil standings.
Women's saber results from rounds 1-3
The opening rounds of women's saber were led by Northwestern's Sky Miller. Overall, the top nine finishers after three rounds all hailed from different schools. Below are the complete standings.

2021 NC fencing championships resume with Day 3
The 2021 NC fencing championships pick up on Saturday, March 27. This is the third day of the event and the first day of competition on the women's side. The first two days of this year's championship concluded with Notre Dame producing the individual champions in men's épée, foil and sabre.

Day 2 sees three national champions crowned
Day 2 saw the completion of the men's sabre, foil, and épée from the Multi-Sport Facility in University Park, Pennsylvania. Notre Dame put on a terrific display, winning the national championship in the men's sabre and foil, while finishing runner-up in the men's épée. The Fighting Irish sit atop the team leaderboard. Penn State's Ryan Griffiths grabbed the épée victory to hold the Nittany Lions in second place overall.

Men's saber national champion: Luke Linder, Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish walked into the championship match knowing they were going to walk away with the trophy. After earning the top two seeds in the semifinals, freshman Luke Linder and junior Jared Smith battled it out in the finals with Linder emerging victorious, 15-7. This is Linder's first individual national championship and the second for Notre Dame this year.

Men's foil national champion: Marcello Olivares, Notre Dame
Notre Dame's Marcello Olivares was strong from the beginning of the competition and didn't let up until he secured a national championship in the men's foil competition. Olivares met his teammate Andrew Machovec in the championship match after they took down St. John's Cesar Colon and Duke's Finn Hossfeld, respectively. Olivares topped Machovec 15-3 to secure his first national championship.

Men's épée national champion: Ryan Griffiths, Penn State
Penn State placed two fencers in the semifinals of the épée competition, but it was junior Ryan Griffiths who captured the title. Griffiths emerged from the No. 3 seed in the semifinals to meet Notre Dame's Stephen Ewart in the championship. Griffith's 15-10 victory kept the Fighting Irish from a clean sweep of champions on the men's side.
The 2021 NC fencing championships resume with the women's épée tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET. The women's foil follows at 11 a.m. ET, along with the women's sabre at 1:30 p.m. ET.

2021 NC Fencing championships participants announced
The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Fencing Committee has announced the field of 144 competitors who will participate in the 2021 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships. This year’s fencing championships will consist of participants from 20 member institutions. Pennsylvania State University will host the championships at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania, March 25-28, 2021.
