California's Mykolas Alekna set a world record of 74.35 meters in the discus throw at the Oklahoma Throws Series. It was the oldest men's track and field world record at the time of it falling, previously set by Jürgen Schult in 1986 at 74.08 meters.

Alekna competed unattached at the Oklahoma Throws series, but excelled from the first throw. His series went 72.21 on his first throw, 70.32 on his second throw, 72.89 on his third throw, 70.51 on his fourth throw before finally, the world record on throw five of 74.35 meters.
Alekna previously set the collegiate discus record at 71.00 meters in 2023, and three of his throws broke that mark. In total, the Lithuanian thrower has most of the 10 furthest throws of in collegiate history to date.
