West Chester beats UCSD to earn national title

West Chester crowned the 2017 DII Baseball Champions

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas â€” Congrats to the West Chester Golden Rams, the 2017 Division II baseball champions.

WCU absolutely dominated in its trip to Grand Prairie, going 4-0. That fourth win was the most important one, a 5-2 victory over UC San Diego.

UC San Diego fought off elimination from the tournament four times successfully. After dropping its opener in extra innings to St. Thomas Aquinas, the Tritons stormed back scoring a combined 48 runs in four straight wins. They simply ran into a well-rested West Chester team on the final day.

Robert Knox got things going with a leadoff home run and Nick Ward added another. Jon Fisher pitched five strong innings, handing the ball to Josh McClain. McClain -- as he had all tournament -- dominated the next four in shutout fashion. He picked up his second win of the tournament -- to go along with one save --- earning himself Most Outstanding Player honors.
