Maryland lacrosse cruises past Virginia, advances to title game vs. Notre Dame
No. 7 Maryland held No. 6 Virginia to its lowest goal total of the season by dominating from the opening face-off. The Terps will play on Monday afternoon for the third time in the last four years after their 12-6 win over Virginia.
The six goals are the fewest Virginia has scored under Lars Tiffany, who took over after the 2016 season. Payton Cormier, who led the nation with 64 goals in the regular season, was held to just one goal on Saturday as Virginia's season ends in the semifinal for the second season in a row.
This was about as perfect of a performance as Maryland could have. They gelled at every level and completely denied Virginia of any significant possession time or momentum. The Terps will look for their fourth title in program history on Monday when they will take on No. 1 Notre Dame.
Another dominant period for the Terrapins has Virginia on the brink. With 15 minutes to play, Maryland leads 11-4.
Daniel Kelly has a hat-trick for Maryland, while Daniel Maltz and Eric Spanos each have two goals.
