📝 Game preview
Saturday marks a newly accomplished feat for Army-Navy’s rivalry game — the 125th meeting between the two programs.
Both teams had resurgent-like seasons, each starting 5-0 for the first time since 1945 and securing bowl eligibility in the same year for the first time since 2017.
Navy went on a rampage for most of the 21st century in this series, winning 14 straight matchups from 2002 to 2015. However, Army has made things interesting in recent years, beating the Midshipmen in the last two meetings — games that were either determined in overtime or the last few seconds.
With the last three matchups separated by just 13 points total and both programs bowl bound, another tight one could be expected.

👀 Check out the bowl matchups
Although bragging rights are on the line for both teams, neither program is fighting for bowl eligibility, as Army and Navy secured bowl eligibility earlier in the season. It’s the first time since 2017 that both programs played in the postseason the same year.
With the bowl game schedule released on Dec. 8, here’s a look at the Black Knights' and Midshipmen’s matchups.

- No. 22 Army vs. Marshall
- 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 | ESPN
- Independence Stadium
- Shreveport, Louisiana
The matchup will mark the first time ever that two conference champions will meet in the Independence Bowl. Although the Black Knights are 4-1 under coach Jeff Monken in bowl games, the program is 0-1 against Marshall all-time.
Navy — Armed Forces Bowl

Navy's contest versus Oklahoma will be the second-ever meeting between the Midshipmen and Sooners — last time was in 1965. Additionally, it's the first time Navy has played an SEC team since 2011.
⚔️ Series history between Army and Navy
When searching for the definition of a rivalry, Army and Navy fit the description to a tee. The timeless rivalry has presented down-to-the-wire contests, blowouts and prolonged win streaks dating back to 1890.
This year's late-season matchup marks the 125th meeting between the two, with Navy leading the series 62-55-7, backed by a 14-game win streak throughout the 2000s.
HISTORY: Final scores for every Army-Navy Game
With the last three games separated by just 13 points total, here’s a look back at the last two meetings that were determined at the last minute.
- Dec. 9, 2023: Army 17, Navy 11
With less than 22 seconds left in the contest, Navy trailed 17-9 and needed just six yards and a successful two-point conversion to send the rivalry game into overtime for the second consecutive year.
Set up at the Black Knights’ 6-yard line on first and goal, the chances would be slim for any team’s defense to make a goal-line stand in such conditions.
But the Army did just that, preventing the Midshipmen from scoring at the 6-yard line on three straight downs and at the 2 on fourth.

- Dec. 10, 2022: Army 20, Navy 17 (2OT)
The first overtime game in series history, Army-Navy’s matchup lived up to the historic feat.
A slugfest filled with 18 punts, the game took a new shape in the first overtime. Both teams scored on the first play of their possessions to force a second overtime. The Midshipmen slowed things down in the second overtime with six straight run plays, but still found themselves at the doorstep of the end zone — the 3-yard line on third and goal.
That’s when things got crazy.
As running back Anton Hall Jr. attempted to dive into the end zone, Army defensive lineman Austin Hill punched the football out while defensive lineman Darius Richardson recovered it.
The fumble set up the Black Knights and kicker Quinn Maretzki for a game-winning 39-yard field goal to hand Army its second-straight victory over Navy.
What a game !!!!
