Preseason awards
Player of the Year: Jac Caglianone, 1B/LHP, Florida
"How could we talk about anyone else? The Shohei Ohtani comparisons would be ridiculous if it weren’t for the fact that they’re apt. The guy can throw 100 mph and routinely turns in exit velocities in excess of triple digits. If you want to nitpick his game, you can say that it might help him to be a touch more selective at the plate — he walked just 17 times last season — and he definitely needs to throw more strikes on the mound, but if those things get shored up, it’s not crazy to imagine a scenario where he’s both the best hitter and the best pitcher in the country." — Joe Healy, D1Baseball.com
Pitcher of the Year: Hagen Smith, LHP, Arkansas
"Junior left-hander Hagen Smith has a very real chance to be college baseball’s premier ace in 2024. Extremely physical with two years of high-pressure experience under his belt, Smith looked better than ever this fall, running his heater up to 100 mph and commanding the pitch more consistently, while also mixing in a newly developed splitter to go along with his slider." — Aaron Fitt, D1Baseball.com
Freshman of the Year: Gavin Grahovac, 3B, Texas A&M
"Grahovac, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, looked the part throughout fall workouts. He can play third, the outfield and Jim Schlossnagle pointed out that he also spent time with USA Baseball behind the plate and excelled at the position. He will stick to third for the Aggies, though. Grahovac has a sweet, but impactful, right-handed swing, and physically, reminds me of former Texas Tech standout and current Rangers slugger Josh Jung at the same age. Grahovac, as with Jace LaViolette last season, looks like a slam dunk instant impact bat." — Kendall Rogers, D1Baseball.com
