Louisville volleyball takes down Stanford in four

No. 6 Louisville topped No. 4 Stanford in a gritty 3-1 victory at Maples Pavilion on Sunday, Oct. 5. The Cardinals snapped a 20-game win streak at home for Stanford in their second ranked-win of the season.
Stanford won the opening set, 25-21, in a heated back and forth battle. But Louisville flipped the momentum and controlled set two with leads as large as eight points to finish 25-18.
Evened up at 1-1, the third set featured four different scoring runs of at least four points between the two teams. The Cardinals finished with a 5-0 streak to secure the 25-20 win over a rallying Stanford team.
The gritty battle continued in the fourth. The Cardinals opened on a 6-0 scoring run that quickly evened out with surging Stanford team and 13 ties that lead to extras. Louisville fought off the Cardinal and survived 26-24, clinching the victory at the Farm.
Setter Nayelis Cabello orchestrated the Louisville offense to .304 on hitting, balancing her team with four different attackers registering double-digit kills on the day. It was Payton Peterson that lead the Louisville charge with 15 kills on a .361 clip with 14 digs and block.
In tandem with the balanced offense, the Cardinals’ service pressure created opportunity for some big-time defensive plays. Middle Cara Cresse held strong at the front, finishing with seven blocks and 13 kills.
Louisville will host Virginia Tech in its next matchup on Friday, October 10 at 7 p.m. ET
