πŸ‘‹ Week 5 wrap up

Wow, college football fans. Week 5 of the season was a whirlwind of great games, unexpected upsets and plays you wouldn't want to miss β€” the definition of must-see television.

We are about to head out for the night, but what better to recap some of the best moments from the top games of the day?

Check them out:

No. 6 Oregon makes game-winning interception in double overtime

If college football didn't know about defensive back Dillion Thieneman before Saturday, now they do. The Purdue transfer intercepted No. 3 Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in double overtime to seal the victory for the Ducks, 30-24, and improve them to 5-0.

No. 17 Alabama snaps No. 5 Georgia's 33-game home win streak

The Crimson Tide didn't start their 2025 campaign on the right foot, losing to then-unranked Florida State and facing criticism from the college football world.

Weeks later, that loss is in the rearview mirror after beating UGA on the road, 24-21, with the help of quarterback Ty Simpson's three-touchdown performance.

No. 13 Ole Miss stuns No. 4 LSU at home

Another top-10 team falls. The Rebels pulled off a major win over the Tigers at home, winning 24-19, to move to 5-0 for the third time in program history in the FBS Era (since 1978). Ole Miss was in the driver's seat for most of the contest, never allowing LSU to get comfortable and limiting them to 254 yards of offense.

No. 18 Vanderbilt ties second-best start since 1943

The Commodores' magical season continued on Saturday, pummeling Utah State 55-34 behind quarterback Diego Pavia's six-touchdown game.

Although the Aggies don't present the toughest opponent for Vanderbilt, considering their conference affiliation, the win was bigger than the 21-point difference. The Commodores' 5-0 record is the program's best since 2008 and 1943. They've won each game by at least 20 points, which is tied for the third-longest streak to begin a season in SEC history.

No. 16 Georgia Tech comes back to beat Wake Forest

The Yellow Jackets found themselves down 17-3 at halftime on the road.

However, they came alive in the second half, scoring 17 unanswered points and a field goal as time expired in the fourth to force overtime. There, GT prevailed, intercepting the Demon Deacons' two-point conversion attempt in double overtime.

🀯 Oregon, Alabama secure top-5 ranked road wins

The night slate of college football lived up to the hype, featuring two thrilling road wins by the lower-ranked teams.

Here's how it went.

No. 17 Alabama outlasts No. 5 Georgia

The Crimson Tide were written off by many after the first game of the season, losing to then-unranked Florida State, 24-21. Between the upset and last season’s woes, No. 17 Alabama seemed to have more questions than answers.

That all changed on Saturday, beating No. 5 Georgia, 24-21, on the road to snap the Bulldogs’ 33-game home win streak.

The contest was a tale of two halves β€” the first being a back-and-forth shootout and the second being a defensive battle. Alabama led 21-17 at the break behind quarterback Ty Simpson’s three-touchdown performance.

UGA scored on its first drive in the second half, but couldn’t make it over the hump after that.

Hoping to get one final defensive stop in the fourth and give its offense a chance to win it, Georgia was unable to stop the Crimson Tide, sealing the road victory. Kirby Smart falls to 1-7 against Alabama.

No. 6 Oregon secures 2OT win with game-winning interception

Whenever a game enters overtime, the saying β€˜every moment matters’ reaches new heights of importance.

No. 6 Oregon and defensive back Dillon Thieneman proved that against No. 3 Penn State, downing the Nittany Lions, 30-24, with his game-winning interception in double overtime.

Penn State’s White Out contest gained noise as the game continued. Tied 3-3 at halftime, the Ducks scored consecutive touchdowns that led to a 17-3 lead early in the fourth. The Nittany Lions roared back in a major way, scoring 14 unanswered points and tying it at 17 apiece with 30 seconds left in regulation.

After both teams scored in the first overtime, the Ducks moved quickly in the second with a touchdown on the first play of the drive. Looking to respond, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar threw the interception to Thieneman to end the game.

The win improves the Ducks to 6-0 and PSU coach James Franklin falls to 4-21 against top-10 ranked opponents.

🍿 Oregon - Penn State headed to OT

The late-night, top-10 matchup in State College is headed to overtime.

After Oregon took a 17-3 lead in the third and early fourth quarter with back-to-back scoring drives, the Nittany Lions responded with two straight of their own in the fourth. The second of the two concluded a 15-play, 62-yard possession that tied the game at 17-17 with 30 seconds left.

Quarterback Drew Allar pitched it to wide receiver Devonte Ross for a seven-yard receiving touchdown.

🫨 Oregon avoids near fumble, leads to TD

No. 3 Penn State and No. 6 Oregon didn't give each other an inch of separation in the first half, increasing the importance of every drive in the second half.

The Ducks nearly had a game-altering play midway through the third quarter, where it looked like running back Noah Whittington fumbled during Oregon's first trip to the red zone.

After official review, the call was overturned, and it was a close was one. Watch the clip below.

The Ducks went on to score on the next play, scoring the first touchdown of the contest and taking a 10-3 lead. It was an eight-yard reception to wideout Dierre Hill Jr.

⏰ Halftime Check-In

The two biggest games of Week 5 have reached halftime. Here's a quick look into how No. 3 Penn State vs. No. 6 Oregon and No. 5 Georgia and No. 17 are going.

Penn State and Oregon in a slugfest

The Nittany Lions’ annual White Out game has been the definition of a dogfight so far.

No. 3 Penn State and No. 6 Oregon are tied 3-3 at the break with 258 yards combined. Neither of the Big Ten powerhouses have reached the red zone yet, attempting three field goals.

PSU has just 69 total yards and quarterback Drew Allar has thrown for 45 yards.

Alabama up 10 at the break

A rematch of arguably the most electric regular season game of last year, No. 5 Georgia and No. 17 Alabama haven’t disappointed.

The Crimson Tide leads 24-14 after jumping out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. The Bulldogs responded with two touchdowns across their final three possessions, while Alabama ended the half on a high note with a rushing touchdown by quarterback Ty Simpson with less than a minute remaining.

Simposon shined in the first 30 minutes of play, completing 15 of 23 passes for 192 passing yards and three touchdowns, two passing and one rushing.

πŸ” BACK-TO-BACK South Carolina defensive touchdowns

South Carolina's Dylan Stewart laid a huge hit on Kentucky QB Cutter Boley to get the sack on third down, then Jatius Geer recovered the fumble and took it to the house for the Gamecocks.

Then on the very next drive, Gerald Kilgore picked off Boley, and he returned it for 45 yards for the Gamecocks' second-straight defensive touchdown.

πŸ•’ Mid Afternoon window recap

Even more close games in second slate of Week 5 games, highlighted by another overtime thriller. With the night cap games going, let's see look at everything you may have missed:

No. 15 Tennessee 41, Mississippi State 34 (OT)

One snap, one run, one score and only one overtime needed for No. 15 Tennessee to beat Mississippi State in a SEC showdown at Davis Wade Stadium. The game was tied 17-17 at the break, but it was far from a pretty half after the teams traded defensive stands, turnovers and big plays, including a pick-six from Tennessee corner Colton Hood. Joey Aguilar kept the Vols in striking distance with explosive throws to Chris Brazzell and Mike Matthews who combined for 223 yards, though two tipped interceptions and a muffed punt gave Mississippi State short fields that turned into touchdowns. The Bulldogs were led by Fluff Bothwell who exploded for 134 yards and two touchdowns, running all over the Tennessee defensive line.

In the second half, Tennessee’s defense swung momentum with a scoop-and-score on Blake Shapen after a successful fake punt from the Bulldogs deep in their own territory, but Mississippi State answered with a long strike and another short-field touchdown to stay in front 34-27. The Vols responded late, engineering a touchdown drive to knot the score at 34-34 in the fourth quarter. In overtime, Tennessee received the ball first and De'Sean Bishop ran it 25 yards on the first play of OT. Shapen took the Bulldogs all the way down to a fourth-and-goal on the four-yard line, but the Vols batted it down in the end zone to seal the win.

No. 1 Ohio State 24, Washington 6

No. 1 Ohio State snaps Washington’s home winning streak at 22 (second longest in the nation) with a 24-6 win. Leaning on a dominant defense that kept the Huskies out of the end zone, Ryan Day managed sophomore QB Julian Sayin’s first road start with a run-heavy approach before opening up the passing game. Sayin went 22 of 28 for 208 yards and two TDs in what was a slow start for the Buckeyes as they only led 14-6 going into the fourth quarter. However, Washington's struggl on third down (1-for-11) and botched a fake field goal kept them behind. Demond Williams Jr. was accurate (82%, 173 yards) but couldn’t score, while RB Jonah Coleman was held to 70 yards. Day has improved to 49-0 vs. Big Ten teams not named Michigan or Oregon.

No. 13 Ole Miss 24, No. 4 LSU 19

No. 13 Ole Miss secured a statement win in Oxford, taking down No. 4 LSU 24-19. Lane Kiffin went with Trinidad Chambliss at Quarterback and it paid off as he led three long touchdown drives, and the Rebels’ defense stifled the Tigers’ one-dimensional attack, holding them to 254 yards and just 2 of 11 on third downs.

Ole Miss overcame 14 penalties (109 yards) and two costly turnovers, including a goal-line fumble and an interception, falling behind 7-0 early. But, 17 unanswered points put Ole Miss up 17-7 at the half. Logan Diggs’ fourth-quarter touchdown gave the Rebels breathing room, but LSU rallied late behind freshman Harlem Berry’s 6-yard score. However, LSU failed on the two-point try, and Ole Miss’ defense held on to win. The Rebels move to 5-0 (3-0 SEC) entering their bye week, while LSU’s unbeaten run ended at 4-1.

No. 9 Texas A&M 16, Auburn  10

No. 9 Texas A&M held off Auburn 16-10 in a defensive battle at Kyle Field. The Aggies struck first with a Le’Veon Moss touchdown run on the 1-yard line. Randy Bond took it from there with three field goals, including a 44-yarder late in the fourth quarter. Auburn stayed alive thanks to Jackson Arnold’s 2-yard rushing score and a 72-yard Pick-6 from Xavier Atkins that set up a short field, but Auburn's offense never found rhythm as Hugh Freeze falls to 1-9 against ranked opponents in his time at Auburn.

πŸͺŸ Noon window recap

We had some epic finishes in the early slate today. As the afternoon games begin to kick off, let's take a look back at the best moments from the noon window:

No. 16 Georgia Tech survives Wake Forest, 30-29 (OT)

No. 16 Georgia Tech survives a nailbiter against Wake Forest, winning in overtime 30-29. Wake Forest dominated the first half, taking a 17-3 lead into the locker room, but Haynes King and the Yellow Jackets stormed back, scoring 17 unanswered points to tie it at 20 in the fourth. Wake pulled in front again with a go-ahead field goal with just over five minutes to go, but Georgia Tech tied it with ANOTHER fire-drill field goal as the clock ran down.

On to overtime.

Of course, Georgia Tech QB Haynes King ran it in to take the lead in OT, but Wake Forest answered right back with a touchdown of their own. The Demon Deacons decided the game would end on the next play, but the two-point try was intercepted, and the Yellow Jackets complete the second largest comeback in program history.

No. 23 Illinois walks off No. 21 Southern Cal., 34-32

Illinois bounces back after a disappointing Week 4 loss with a home win over No. 21 Southern Cal., 34-32. The Illini pulled out all the stops in this one, scoring on an early trick play TD pass to QB Luke Altmeyer, and ending with a walk-off 41-yard field goal.

Altmeyer added a rushing TD and two more through the air, finishing with 328 yards passing in the bounceback win.

No. 22 Notre Dame dominates Arkansas, 56-13

Love was in the air, on the ground and all over the scoresheet for No. 22 Notre Dame as RB Jeremiyah Love scored four first-half TDs in a 56-13 rout of Arkansas. Arkansas got on the board first with an early field goal, but the Irish fought back quickly, taking a 42-13 lead into halftime, and that would all but seal it in Fayetteville. They added two more scores in the second half to cap off a dominant showing on the road.

Cincinnati takes down Kansas, 37-34

Cincinnati outlasts Kansas in an offensive shootout, winning 37-34. This game was an explosion of offense, with the teams combining for 1,200 total yards. Bearcats QB Brendan Sorsby threw for 388 yards and two TDs in an impressive performance. Not to be outdone, Kansas QB Jalon Daniels had 445 yards and four TDs through the air, but he came up just short in the loss. Cincinnati WR Cyrus Allen had 128 receiving yards and hauled in two touchdowns on the day as the Bearcats leave Lawrence with a win.

7:30 pm, September 27, 2025

😱 GAME WINNING 50-YARD TD

Central Connecticut State tied the game, 28-28, with less than a minute to go.

But Dartmouth charged down to the 50 yard-line in five plays. Grayson Saunier capped the quick drive, connecting to Ky'Dric Fisher for a 50-yard touchdown and putting the Big Green up 35-28 with :16 seconds left.

The Dartmouth defense held on to the lead in the final seconds, clinching the win over Central Connecticut State.

🀏 The snag, the reach, the Gophers lead

Javon Tracy gets up to make the catch before using all of his 6-foot frame to inch the ball across the goal line for six. Minnesota takes a three-point lead over Rutgers late in the fourth quarter with this effort.

6:49 pm, September 27, 2025
