🤯 MIAMI INTERCEPTS REED IN END ZONE, WINS 10-3

The Hurricanes are headed to the CFP quarterfinals, after defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald intercepted Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed in the end zone with 24 seconds left, to win 10-3.

It was Fitzgerald's second of interception of the game.

The contest was a slugfest filled with defensive heroics, missed kicks and gusts of winds. The first scoreless half in CFP history, the ballgame was tied 3-3 with less than 10 minutes left in the playoff affair. But after 10 punts, four missed field goals and four turnover on downs combined, Miami star freshman wide out Malachi Toney leaped across the pylon on an 11-yard pitch and catch from quarterback Carson Beck with less than two minutes left.

Running back Mark Fletcher rushed for 172 yards on 17 carries — 75 on their last drive.

The Aggies moved down the field with authority, though, reaching Miami's five-yard line with 39 seconds left. Three plays later, Fitzgerald, another freshman, called game.

The Hurricanes will now play No. 2 Ohio State on Dec. 31 in the Cotton Bowl.

🫨 HURRICANES TAKES THE LEAD

Miami has scored the first touchdown of the game with less than two minutes left in the contest, thanks to Malachi Toney.

Minutes after fumbling, Toney redeemed himself, catching quarterback Carson Beck's toss while in motion to give the Hurricanes a 10-3 lead on a 11-yard reception. It was a six play, 86 yard scoring drive. The touchdown ties Toney for the most receiving touchdowns by FBS freshmen (8).

👏 TAMU ties it at 3-3

The Aggies have finally gotten on the board with eight minutes left behind kicker Randy Bond's 35-yard field goal. It concluded a 16 play, 67-yard drive.

Texas A&M turned to Bond after Miami blocked kicker Jared Zirkel's field goal attempt in the first quarter.

😬 Miami misses field goal after INT

Miami couldn't take advantage of defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald's interception on Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed, as kicker Carter Davis botched his third field goal of the game.

He's the first kicker to miss three in a CFP game.

The interception set up the Hurricanes at TAMU's 20-yard line, but the offense produced just three yards and an incompletion leading to the field goal attempt. Davis has missed from 35, 40 and 47.

🎯 Miami breaks scoreless tie with field goal

The Hurricanes have finally broken the scoreless tie in College Station, nailing a 21-yard field goal to give them a 3-0 lead on their first possession in the third quarter.

It was Miami's best drive of the game hands down, producing three plays for 15 or more yards. They made it all the way to Texas A&M's two-yard line before turning to kicker Carter Davis. It was a nine play, 72-yard drive.

🏈 Halftime in College Station

A half filled with kicking drama and defensive stands, No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 10 Miami are tied 0-0 at halftime following the Hurricanes' missed 40-yard field goal entering the break.

It's the first scoreless half in College Football Playoff history since 2014.

Both teams struggled to put together any momentum offensively, largely because of the strength of each defense and the gusts of wind throughout Kyle Field. The Aggies and Hurricanes missed all three field goals in the half and neither posted over 100 yards in the second quarter.

Outside of the missed field goals, Miami had 69 total yards in the first half, while TAMU recorded three punts, a turnover on downs and a fumble lost.

🙅‍♂️ Miami misses 47-yard field goal

The Hurricanes were unable to capitalize on wide receiver Malachi Toney's 55-yard punt return, missing a 47-yard field goal to keep the game scoreless.

Following the exhilarating return, Texas A&M's defense didn't give up more than two yards and sacked Miami quarterback Carson Beck on third down before kicker Carter Davis' miss. The Hurricanes have just 17 total yards in the second quarter.

❌ Hurricanes BLOCK field goal

After Aggies wide out Mario Carver's outstanding catch, Miami's defense shutdown Texas A&M's offense in the red zone. Not allowing even a first down, the Hurricanes capped off the defensive stand by blocking TAMU's 22-yard field goal attempt.

ACC Defensive Player of the Year Rueben Bain Jr. got a hand on kicker Jared Zirkel's kick.

🫨 WILD catch by Texas A&M's Mario Carver

The Aggies wasted no time on their fourth offensive possession of the game to march down the field with quarterback Marcel Reed heaving the ball down the field to wide receiver Mario Carver for 59 yards.

And it wasn't your typical catch. Carver reached out, bobbled the pigskin and eventually came down with it to put the Aggies at Miami's 11-yard line.

🍿 Previewing Texas A&M-Miami

These teams may have not met in the regular season, but they shared two common opponents, with each squad's best win coming over Notre Dame early in the regular season. The Canes took down the Irish 27-24 in Week 1, and the Aggies knocked off Notre Dame 41-40 on the road in Week 3. Let's run through each program's season ahead of Saturday's noon kickoff:

🤠 No. 7 Texas A&M (11-1)

The preseason No. 19 team had a stellar regular season, shooting into the top five by Week 7 and holding until its Week 14 loss to Texas in Austin. That loss was the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect regular season for the Aggies. However, it was enough to knock TAMU out of its first-ever SEC championship appearance. Still, Mike Elko's squad comfortably made its first College Football Playoff appearance.

Texas A&M, similar to Oklahoma, wields one of the best pass rushes in the country, tied with the Sooners with 41 sacks on the year. The Aggies are sacking the quarterback on over 10% of opponents pass attempts — the highest clip in the country — led by senior defensive end Cashius Howell, who is tied for the second most solo sacks in the nation with 11.

The Aggies also boast the best third down defense in the FBS, allowing a ridiculously low 22.7% conversion rate — almost 6 percent higher than second place Indiana.

Elko's offense is led by sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed, who is a proven nightmare for opposing defenses with his ability to extend plays with his legs. His connection with receiver KC Concepcion is one of the best QB-WR duos in the nation, with Concepcion accounting for almost a third of Reed's passing yards. However, Reed is susceptible to interceptions with 10 on the year, tied with Carson Beck and John Mateer for the most in the CFP field.

🙌 Miami (10-2)

The Canes got off to a red-hot start with the win over then-No. 6 Notre Dame to open the year. They owned three ranked wins in the first six weeks of the season, but a Week 8 loss to Louisville and Week 10 loss to SMU sent Miami tumbling down the rankings, dropping as low as No. 18 in the Week 11 AP poll. However, Mario Cristobal's team closed out the regular season on a tear, winning by an average of over 31 points in the last four weeks. The Canes' CFP hopes were murky heading into selection Sunday, but Miami received the final at-large bid over Notre Dame to make its first CFP appearance.

It's hard to predict an outcome for this game, as both teams possess an elite defense and explosive offenses. The Canes have the sixth-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just under 14 points per game. Cristobal has a wall of a rush defense, holding teams to under three yards per attempt and 86 total on the ground. And while not quite as good as TAMU, Miami has the 10th best third down defense, limiting teams to just a 30% conversion rate.

Remarkably, Reed and Miami quarterback Carson Beck have the exact same TD: INT ratio, each passing for 25 scores and throwing 10 picks. But the fifth-year Georgia transfer can sling it, eclipsing 3,000 passing yards this season. Also similar to Reed, he has a lethal connection with true-freshman wideout Malachi Toney, who has tallied 970 of his 3,072 yards. This game could come down to which team is able to limit the opposing QB-WR duo.

Both teams are pretty evenly matched on paper, and the crowd could be a determining factor in this matchup. The Canes left the state of Florida only three times all season, playing just four road games. And they definitely have not played in an environment as hostile as College Station. Be on the lookout for how Beck and the Miami offense handle the noise, because you can guarantee Kyle Field and the 12th Man will be rocking.
