Syracuse gave its seniors a Senior Night to remember on Friday, upsetting No. 3 Pitt in a shutout 2-0. In both teams' regular season finale, it was Syracuse's first top-5 ranked win since 2022, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The shutout marks Pitt’s fourth loss of the season — each to unranked opponents. It's the Panthers' third loss in the last five games, two of which were against ACC opponents.
The Orange wasted no time going on the offensive against the Panthers, scoring in the fifth minute. Set up by graduate student Ben Rosenblatt’s crosser into the box, Pitt junior Casper Svendby headed the ball in hopes of shutting down Syracuse’s scoring opportunity.
Wrong. Svendby’s header trickled out to a charging freshman Kristjan Fortier who found the back of the net in a heartbeat for his second goal of the year.

Nearly 65 minutes later, the Orange doubled their advantage. Following freshman Chimere Omeze’s corner kick, the ball pinballed around the box until it found the right foot of sophomore Nathan Scott. Like Fortier, it was his second goal of the season.
Pitt put itself in scoring position more than Syracuse, finishing with more shots (13-10), shots on goal (5-3) and corners (6-3). However, senior goalkeeper Tomas Hut was a brick wall for the Orange with five saves — tied for second-most in his career.
Although losing to then-No. 3 Clemson last week, Syracuse jumped above .500 with this win and gained momentum heading into the ACC tournament next week. Pitt falls to 12-4 but held onto its top spot in ACC standings.
